As Parents, We Want To Give Our Children The World.

Athlete, Ty

As a parent, there are incredible moments that are forever engraved in our minds. The moments of accomplishment, watching our children grow in ways we had always dreamt of. I am so very grateful for Surf for All and the incredible impact the program has on my son Ty.

It was only one year ago that Ty went surfing for the first time. Prior to this, he had been playing and swimming in the shallow parts of the water. So this was a big change and a brand new experience. He was absolutely petrified the first time he was taken out on the board to the depth of uncharted territory. But then gradually, the fear that he had kept getting chiseled away each time the dedicated and absolutely amazing instructors took him out for another ride. I recently looked back at videos from last year and was blown away at how far he has come in only a year. The trusting relationships he has developed with the Surf for All team enable him to feel confident and comfortable with the ocean. I have loved watching his beautiful journey.

This year, at the beginning of the week, Ty still needed to be holding on in some way to his instructors as they would back ride with him to catch some waves. On Tuesday, I remember saying to Anthony, let’s push him out and let him try some waves on his own, believing he was ready for the next step. The magic continued as Ty rose to the next challenge. Not only did he do just fine on his own, but he then began standing up on his board each time. The exhilaration was all over Ty’s face as we witnessed his “ah ha” moment when he realized he was capable of standing up on his board and riding waves independently. It was by far one of the most spectacular moments that I will treasure forever. His smile lit up the entire beach.

As parents, we want to give our children the world. And the world is exactly what Surf for All gives to others. The love we have for the entire staff is immeasurable. Thank you! We love you!
