“The ocean is a freeing place, in a world where I often feel limited, Surf for All allowed me to fly, that’s was surfing felt like, like flying.” Says Nicole, bilateral above knee amputee and limb kind foundation mentor. This weekend the Limb Kind Foundation, a non-profit that provides children with limb loss and limb difference prosthetic limbs across the world in areas with lack of access to prosthetic care, brought their team to Long Beach, NY for a day of surfing! Kids and adults with limb loss/difference were able to get out on the ocean, ride the waves, and conquer yet another activity that might otherwise be a barrier to a new life experience.

Skudin surf and Surf for all volunteers helped each individual with limb loss get on those boards and it was nothing but smiles out on the ocean! For bilateral amputee and limb kind mentor Nicole, being able to surf was not something she ever thought would be possible after her limb loss, just getting down to the beach seemed impossible. But with the help of limb kind and surf for all, she was able to find a new love for the ocean and surfing! “Being out there, in a swim suit is already a vulnerable place for us as amputees, so to be together with others like yourself, just having fun and not thinking about being stared at, the barriers of the beach being broken, and then top it off with a surfing session, it’s life changing.”
